Itinerary:
Day Four
Whale Watching in Telegraph Cove
Today is reserved for Orca whale watching. After our breakfast we fly to Telegraph Cove on the east coast of Vancouver Island, almost at the northern tip near Port Hardy.
The Johnstone Strait area is acknowledged as the "core" area for killer whales during the summer month. Since 1980, Stubbs Island Charters have been working closely with the whale research community locally and internationally. Dedicated, experienced and licensed skippers and crew make these 4-5 hour whale watching cruises informative educational and lots of fun. The 60 ft. spacious Coast Guard approved vessels are equipped with hydrophones (underwater microphones) for participants to listen to the whales vocalizing while watching them. Telegraph Cove is an historic and quaint village only an half hours sail from the prime viewing area called Robson Bight, which is now an Ecological Reserve. A late lunch will be served on board the Cruise ship, which will leave Telegraph Cove at 3.00 p.m.
After the whale watching cruise, we will either be flown or driven to Farewell Harbour Resort or to Hidden Cove Lodge, both deluxe fishing resorts in the area. Farewell Resort is an isolated lodge on beautiful Berry Island, now a Provincial Park, which overlooks the dramatic Inside Passage, the "Marine Highway" to Alaska. Hidden Cove is 7 km. from Telegraph Cove on a secluded bay facing Johnstone Straits. Each of these resorts offer excellent cuisine, and after a hearty dinner, our day has come to a memorable end.
